SDA Handbook

Kids Classes:

We use age recommendations as a jumping off point. Sometimes a dancer may be a better fit for a class that is above or below the age guide we’ve defined. The first two weeks of the season is a fluid time in which dancers may move up or down a level depending on their abilities.  If you have any questions about what level your dancer may fit in, please reach out.

Adult Classes

Adult classes are held on a drop in basis. They are free to members, non-members will pay Snowcreek’s drop-in fee.

Check out latest calendar for our class schedule.

Costumes

Costume fees are due in the first few weeks of the season. Costume measurements will be taken in the first few weeks of classes. Exchanges can be made if necessary but must be done promptly. Required shoes, tights, and accessories information will be provided when costumes are ordered.

Privates

Private lessons are offered year round in a wide. variety of genres. Please contact Snowcreek Athletic Club for pricing. These are scheduled based on the teacher’s and dancer’s availability.

Dress Code

Our primary goal is that kids are comfortable and confident in dance class. Teachers need to be able to see body movements and lines so we ask for dancers to wear clothing that does not block this i.e. baggy clothing (exception: hip-hop).  Footwear is also an important part of dancing in the studio.

Specific class dress code guidelines are as follows:

Creative Movement: Ballet slippers, pink or black is standard. Tights or leggings, leotard or a form fitting top are preferable. Hair is neat and pulled back up and away from the face.

Pre-Ballet: Ballet shoes, pink or black is standard. Tights or leggings, leotard or a form fitting top. Hair is neat and pulled back up and away from the face.

Ballet/Lyrical: For footwear, ballet shoes, tan jazz shoes, or turners/footies are ideal. Tights or leggings, leotard or a form fitting top.  Hair is neat and pulled back up and away from the face.

Jazz/Musical Theater: Jazz shoes in black or tan, turners/footies are ideal. Leggings or sweatpants (that aren’t too baggy) are acceptable. Form fitting or slightly loose tops are okay. Hair is neat and pulled back up and away from the face.

Hip-Hop: Tennis shoes, vans, combat boots, converse etc. are all acceptable. Whatever the dancer is comfortable in and can move in. Here is the exception for baggy clothing, it is OK for this class to wear sweatpants, flowy tops, etc.

NO jeans.

Tap: Black tap shoes are standard. Leggings or sweatpants (that aren’t too baggy) are acceptable. Form fitting or slightly loose tops are OK. Hair is neat and pulled back up and away from the face.

Jewelry: Try to limit jewelry to essentials only i.e. ear studs.  We ask that no distracting jewelry is worn in class. During Recital, no jewelry will be allowed, piercings will need to be taken out for the dancer’s performance. Please keep this in mind as we approach February.
